1. What happens in case of power failure
?
Nothing ! The workpiece remains clamped on the magnetic chuck.
Indeed, the electropermanent technology of the Turbomill system
needs power only for a few milli-seconds to energise and de-energise
the system. During the production cycles, there is no power consumption.
2. Is the clamping force big enough to hold large components
?
Yes ! The bigger the workpiece is, the greater is the surface area
in contact with the magnetic chuck. The clamping force on the workpiece
increases in proportion to its size.
3. Is there any risk of disturbing the function of the machine
by using a magnetic system ?
No ! The Turbomill system is engineered and built to have a magnetic
circuit in the chuck and in the workpiece. It has no influence on
the functions of the machine.
4. The magnetic clamping is invisible ; how can we know if the
magnetic chuck is active or not ?
Control units have been designed to enable a visual indication
of the chuck condition on the machine PLC or on a separate remote
control. A dialog between the chuck control and the machine is installed
to ensure a completely safe solution.
5. What happens if the machine operator pushes the off button
during a machining cycle?
Nothing ! A dialog is established between the Turbomill chuck and
the machine in order to ensure all safety devices and forbids any
incorrect operation. A totally secure system is achieved in order
to avoid any accidental damage to the machine or to the workpiece.
6. Is the Turbomill chuck waterproof - YES? What happens in
case of milling using coolant ?
Nothing !The Turbomill chuck is completely waterproof ! Even in
case of infiltration of liquid in the chuck, the design of the Turbomill
chucks ensures that there is no risk to the magnetic circuits.
7. Can the magnetic power deform the workpiece ?
This question is relevant and Walker Braillon Magnetics can offer
a perfect answer in the form of sliding poles which adjust to the
dimensions in thickness or scale on the surface of the workpiece.
They secure the deformed workpiece and can guarantee parallelism
and flat components.
8. How to machine 5 faces of the workpiece in one set-up, face
mill, machine slots, pockets or drill through the workpiece ?
The use of pole extensions or sliding poles allows elevation of
the workpieces to expose the 5 faces of the component so that it
is suitable for all machining operations in one set up. The machining
operations can therefor be carried out, witout damaging the magnetic
chucks.
9. Do the chips remain on the workpiece during the machining
operation ?
No ! Some chips may stay in cavitites as it is the case without
using a magnetic chuck. However, the low depth of the magnetic flux
in the workpiece allows the workpiece to be held in total security
and optimum clamping. The complete demagnetisation of the Turbomill
chucks facilitates the easy removal of chips after machining operations.
10. By fixing the magnetic chuck on the machine, do we loose
working area ?
No ! The clamping of the Turbomill chucks on the machine can either
be done with clamps or with screws, through the magnetic chuck,
without any loss of working area, nor of clamping force. This is
one of the many options proposed by Walker Braillon Magnetics. In
fact the total working area of the machine table can be utilised.
